West Berkshire Therapy Centre
In early 2025 I reached out to a member of the trustee team with a proposition to help out with redeveloping their website as I had noticed its design was dated, the content was out of date and it lacked many modern internet technologies including (but not limited to) responsive design and an adherence to WCAG standards. They replied saying that they agreed that the website needed overhauling, and due to a new centre manager recently being appointed there were a lot opportunities on the horizon for the centre to redefine and expand what it represents and offers.
I then began developing a rough proof-of-concept website featuring many placeholder assets to get a feel for what the project involves, and then began streamlining where necessary. There I saw an opportunity to put an emphasis on physical Accessibility to the centre (to detail aspects of the experience to a new visitor, so that they can rest assured that it is suitable for them) so I created a web page dedicated to that. I then presented this to the trustee and my proposal was accepted.
It was really important for me to honour what existed before which is why I reincorporated some ‘old’ design motifs into the new vision.
In the end I was responsible for design, navigation, text, SEO and certain photographic content.
To play a part in defining something as important as a new online strategy has been an honour and I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to achieve with a collective team effort. Each time I visit the Centre I’m always quietly wonderstruck by the incredible group of people that work there; to showcase their hard work and to create the best possible experience for all users of the website - regardless of their reason for visiting - was important to me.
I worked closely with the Centre Manager, board of trustees, staff & volunteers to take all of their ideas and feedback into consideration.
This is a volunteer role that I started carrying out from February 2025.
